Australian Chestnut is a very durable blend of three Eucalyptus species that are native to the southeast of Australia. This hardwood timber flooring differs from most other timber species in that it consists of a Select Grade and two at Feature Grade level. Australian Chestnut is a Select Grade and Wormy Chestnut and Driftwood at Feature Grade.
Australian Chestnut is a very beautiful and enduring solid hardwood that is extremely well suited for timber floors as it is highly dent resistant. Australian Chestnut has a Janka rating of 8.1 for its hardness and a Class 3 rating for its natural durability. Australian Chestnut is also used for other internal applications such as cabinetry and furnishings.
The select grade Australian Chestnut is very consistent in colour ranging from a mellow brown to light chocolate browns with very subtle colour variation. Whereas Wormy Chestnut shows the effects of exposure to the extremely harsh environment of the outback including many years of drought, or flooding, and streaking caused by fire, and markings from insect attack. The Wormy Chestnut floorboards are full of natural features, with distinctive gum veins, insect trails and knots. Polish and staining enhance the striking characteristics and colour variations.
Australian Chestnut floorboards are available in two sizes, which are 85x19mm and 130x19mm. This hardwood timber flooring is usually available in packs ranging from 0.9m through to 5.0m plus, in random lengths.
